Sermon Series: The Life Of Jesus: From Creation to the Cradle to the Cross to the Crown
Sermon Title: The Sermon on the Mount-The King’s Mandate—How To Bring Peace To An Unpeaceful World.
Sermon Date: August 28, 2016
I. The Antithesis of Peace
A. It’s not appeasement
B. It’s not truce making
C. It’s not an absence of war
II. The Attributes of Peace
It is a right relationship of Jesus Christ. Once you have a right relationship with Jesus, which only comes through salvation, then you will have a right relationship with self which then leads to a right relationship with others.
III. The Adversary of Peace
Sin is the adversary of peace. Isaiah 48:22 There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”
Sin brought man to war against God. Romans 5: 1-11
Sin separates man from God, which in turns leaves a cross-shape whole in every person’s heart. Man is constantly at war with himself to try to fill it.
Jesus will not appease sin. Jesus will never make a truce with sin and because Jesus confront sin there will never be an absence of war.
IV. The Attainment of Peace
A. Planned by a Sovereign God
God is the God of peace. Judges 6:24 says “Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord Is Peace.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end.”
B. Purchased by the Lord of All Creation
Ephesians 2: 13-14 “13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility”
Colossians 1: 19-20 “19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”
At the cross, sin was not appeased, it was confronted. At the cross there wasn’t a truce with sin, it was atoned and paid for. God’s greatest righteousness confronted man’s greatest wickedness. Righteousness won and man now can have true peace.
C. Provided by the Great Comforter
One of the fruits of the Spirit is peace. Galatians 5: 22
D. Preserved by the Holy Spirit of Promise
John 14: 26-27 “26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
V. The Agents of Peace
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
How can you be a peace maker?
A. You first be at peace with God.
You have to be truly saved.
B. You then have to know your mission in life.
You have been saved to lead others to a saving knowledge of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:18 “18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;”
